If you're religious and support gay marriage, then paste this meme in your LJ.
I am [insert religion here] and I support gay marriage.

Why? Because... [answer].

For myself: I am a Lutheran Christian (if somewhat ”homeless” at the time being), and I support gay marriage.

Why? For oh so many reasons. Such as:

Because as long as all participants are consenting adults, the state has no business preventing anyone from getting married.

Because the church has no business regulating anything that applies to outsiders rather than just members of the church.

Because even within the church, people should follow their conscience, and a willing priest should not be forbidden to wed people who want to be wed. (Nor should an unwilling priest be forced.)

Because no God worth believing in would first make people gay and then punish them for being gay.

Because the idea is absurd that if I fall in love with a man, that love is automatically more profound and true than if I fall in love with a woman.

Because the passages in the Bible used to condemn homosexuality are few, ambiguous and surrounded by stuff we all threw out ages ago - so as long as we're already picking and choosing, why the hell pick and choose something so blatantly wrong? (Also, gang rape of angels =/= homosexuality.)

Because there's something definitely wrong with a worldview that leads to murder and misery.
Because even if I never slept with another woman again, I could never be the kind of woman the anti-gay marriage people expect women to be.

Because love is a rare gift, and standing in the way of someone's love is a very serious offense.

Because whether working from the principle of utilitarianism or the principle of a loving God, this one is simply a no-brainer.

religion, christianity, homosexuality
