lund word championship: test yourselves

Oct 31, 2007 21:55

I discovered that LJ has suckily decided that I'm not worthy of emailed comments. *sigh*

Anyway, since so many of you were interested when I posted the words I flunked at the Lund Word Championship English test for highschoolers, I thought I'd post the whole thing, now that I've managed to find it online.

Here are the English questions.Read more... )

That was fun! I got 135. If I had actually checked the answers to the words you got wrong when you made that post, I would have done better. I missed a lot of the same words. Balmy (I thought that meant the exact opposite), bamboozle, fuselage (considering the amount of documentaries about airplane crashes I've seen, I really should have gotten that one. I blame it on the fact that they keep dubbing the narrator.), treble, byword, afghan, clampdown, oblong, clout. I knew gooseberries, but I missed wild strawberries, which I knew, really. :)

Wild strawberries I knew from Bergman. :-) And yeah, I thought balmy meant the opposite too! Fuselage sounded really familiar, but I couldn't remember where I'd heard it - it wasn't until I saw the answer that I realized they said it on Lost.

Er...does that mean that it's messing up and not emailing you comments when it should, or they've actually made a conscious decision to stop emailing them to you?

Because they're not emailing them to me either lately.

Apparently it's not LJ's fault. (My apologies, LJ!) It's Hotmail - they have started deleting LJ notifications as spam. Deleting, nb, not just putting them in the spam filter. So now I've changed my email addy to the gmail one, and it seems to work so far.

Frell. I have lj_notify on my contacts list just so that sort of thing wouldn't happen, and they still delete it? Gah.

The same thing about not getting LJ comments happened to me as well, and I see you already discovered that it's not LJ's fault, but Homail's. It's really annoying that they just suddenly decided to start deleting the comments - I wondered for days why I wasn't getting any comment notifications until I checked LJ's support pages and discovered that the problem was not with them after all :P.

I almost feel guilty for automatically blaming LJ. But just almost. :-)

Heh, I immediately blamed LJ as well, since they did have those troubles with the comment notifications a few times in the past.
