Oh, this is very interesting. It's neat to read about Nathan being so vulnerable, since it's such a contrast to the way he is in canon. I hope you continue this.
No, it really feels very in character to me-- and really, I think it's much more interesting your way than the show's way! Since Nathan is the brother that "knows who he is" and doesn't have to go around searching for his identity or his destiny-- except now he does. Which is awesome. :D
Wow - I can't wait to see where this is going. Love the transplant to Sweden.
My only comment is that most American men are circumcised, no matter the religion. In the '60s, the rate of white males born who were circumcised was well over 75%. A white male born in a northeastern hospital in the '60s had upwards of a 90% chance of being circumcised. Even today circumcision is very common, and most Americans consider it to be an aesthetic and health-related procedure, not a religious one.
But of course, your Swedish characters wouldn't be expected to know that, so it's not a criticism. Just an interesting cultural difference.
Huh. I just got the strangest sensation of deja vu.
Yeah, the circumcision thing is quite deliberate - in the early stages of the story, I asked around, and people quite unanimously voted that Nathan would be circumcized. In Sweden, non-religous circumcision is extremely rare, so I think Qais and Rim can be forgiven for drawing the wrong conclusions. One of the fun parts about writing this fic has been trying to figure out all the unconscious cultural assumptions.

Yeah, that's why I had the sense of deja vu - now I remember that you asked about it way back when, and I'm sure I commented to say pretty much the same thing. That totally slipped my mind.
And your story so far is way more interesting than Peter's adventures with the Irish mafia.
Well, what a strong piece so far! Beautifully written and very compelling. It's both believable, realistic and quite amusing. I can't wait to see where you're going with this.

Btw, as the only person to have read the whole thing - do you think the Muslims in this story are prominent enough for me to link it at eid_fic?

The story is already "continued" in its raw state, it's just being poked and prodded a lot. So don't worry, more will come.

Concerning circumcision, or something else? *g*
