See Jane Date, or, why can't Jane date Natasha?

I just saw the TV movie See Jane Date, for the sole reason that Charisma Carpenter played the lead. (And writing this post, I realized I no longer have any of my Charisma userpics on LJ. What was I thinking?) It was quite a nice little picture, if totally predictable - I knew which boy she'd end up with early on, and it didn't take me much longer to figuer out the "twist".

I got to say though, that throughout the entire movie, the only person I wanted her to date was Natasha. In part, it was because hello, Charisma Carpenter and Holly Marie Combs? You can't get your pretties much prettier than that. In part it was because with the rate Jane dated, you didn't get a proper feel for any of the boys, while Natasha had more scenes than all of them put together. In part, it was because it's always bitter to hear someone go off on a "I don't need a boyfriend" monologue only to head off with a boyfriend twenty minutes later.

And in part, it's because it was really written as a love story a'la Pride and Prejudice: Jane has to work with Natasha, but resents her from way before and calls her "the gnat". Natasha acts spoiled and clueless. Jane lies to impress Natasha, whom she doesn't like. When Jane's cousin and her friends fawn over Natasha, Jane remains cold.

Natasha reveals her personal problems to Jane, and they start actually working together. Natasha asks Jane to be there while she tells some upsetting news to her less-than-understanding parents. Jane starts actually calling Natasha by her first name, and defending her in front of her friends. Natasha and Jane have a nice coversation in which it is revealed that Natasha has envied Jane just as much as vice versa, and really admires her. Natasha and Jane are pleased to find that they are sitting next to each other at the wedding. Natasha reveals that she and her boyfriend have broken up.

Suggested ending: Jane and Natasha dance until break of day and then go home together, one of them crashing at the other's couch, both of them getting a bit frisky with one another. Nine months later, Jane and Natasha decide to bring up Natasha's baby together.

...Well, it would have worked for me. Obviously, I knew that was never going to happen, and I did like the guy Jane ended up with, but it would have been nice to see it, that's all.

I tend to complain that it's so hard to find something to write femslash about since so few of the female characters I like would make credible pairings, but this would be a perfect pairing. Too bad it's for a fandom no one would ever read.
