Warning! Rant!

My computer continues it madness - the most recent perk is that the help bubbles are written with font size 1 or thereabouts - it's really just a few squirly lines and that is all ( Read more... )

Add to the list of full blown stupidity - "How can you be a child psych if you have no children?" My answer was: "The same way a physician can be a pathologist without being dead." Morons.

Sounds like a reformatting will have to be done sooner or later. Your puter has a very incoherent behavior pattern tat indicates system meltdown.

But reformatting was what I just did - wasn't it? It was after that all the problems started, apart from the slowness.

I reinstalled everything because last time Regan went possessed I went to the exorcist and that was what *he* did. But I probably shouldn't try to drive out the devils on my own - look what happened to the poor priest in the film. :-) Plus, it was Friday the 13th. I was asking for trouble.

At least Regan isn't quite as bad as my parents' computer just yet. When she starts turning herself on like theirs does I'll know to be very afraid.

You have to re-install after you clean all the old files and the system first. On a pc you go to C:/ and type "format", then you get a list of commands you have to say yes to. But remember to save all fies on another directory before you do this because all the files will be wiped out.

If you re-install before you wipe the old files you're asking for trouble. Friday 13th or not *grin*

What I did was this: I moved some of the programs (not many, just Windows Media Player and a couple more) to my secondary hard disc. Then I started the computer from "install MacOS9" and installed that. Then I started from the disc that replaced all my programs, which wiped out everything that wasn't on my secondary hard disc.

Then I had to download the programs I hadn't saved and that weren't included in the original package - such as IE5. And that's when things got weird.

Before I did all of that, my only problem was that my internet connection and -download was insanely slow. Which it still is.

The old system files are still there - you have to wipe them out BEFORE you re-install. Now tell me the platform you're working on and I'll ask the nerd the commands.

Platform?

I don't think the system files are still there - things have definitely been wiped away from my computer, and the only things that were left between the previous version and this were the ones saved on my secondary hard disc (the exorcist split my hard disc way back when).

I freely admit not knowing anything about computers, but I was *shown* how to do this. My guess is that the download of IE5 went wrong because my it stopped and started all the time, so all the things that needed to be there didn't make it. Of course, that doesn't explain the help bubbles.
