DVD commentary part 1

andrealyn requested a commentary on "The Reality of Absence" (well, you know, after my whining). So here it is. Next is roseveare's request, "What They Deserve". That'll probably take *ages*.

DVD style commentary, "The Reality of Absence"

birthdayverse, meta, gunn, angel, wesley, fic talk

I found this really interesting. Many of the comments weren't at all obvious, and pointed out and put new angles on things I hadn't thought about despite have beta-read it. Also your commentary was a good deal less wanky than mine!

Now I think about it, it's interesting that you had Wes fixate on Gunn as Angel's replacement for hero-worship and I gave him a tough-guy OC to fulfil the same function - says something about how much the character is giving off orphan baby duck vibes (or something) at that point in canon. :)

Oh, and--

A pity. Two hundred and forty-eight years was really too long to live. Almost ten times longer than twenty-five.

I think you're wrong about this line. I love this line.

I still need to finish 'Inertia'. :(

He really does - he's so tense all the time. Of course, I totally loved your OC, I believe I called him a "ma-an" or something like that. *g* The Wesley/Angel relationship has always squicked me because Angel is the sort of guy who'd let Wesley worship him and never even notice there was something off about that.

Well, I'm glad, because I love the sentiment behind it but not the way it was actually written. So if the sentiment comes through, that's a good thing.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the way the line's written. True, it doesn't have any flourishes, but there's a lot to be said for directness and simplicity at times.
