So I got a DVD player. Panasonic, of a sort that had tested well. It was on sale, but not all that cheap, just well within the frames of what I could afford. And I think I got everything you guys told me to - might have missed something, but I don't think so.
I also bought a film to try it out on. I'll let you guess which one it was, and to make it a bit easier I can point out that it wasn't LotR in any shape, form or chapter. But it's still one of the obvious ones. :-)

And since I can't not talk about RotK I will. Saw it again yesterday with Nina, who has to talk during the movie even if I explicitly ask her not to. Though some of her comments were rather funny. "Call child services! He's not fit to be a father!"
When we got back to my place, she asked if the ginger kitten on one of my posters had a name, and when I said I don't habitually name my posters (just my computer, bicycle and favourite pillow...) she declared that it was a Faramir, because it was ginger.
Apart from that nod towards David, she mostly seemed into Billy, so clearly the girl has taste - I've been going billydavidmirandabillydavidmiranda since I came home. She didn't seem quite as fond of Miranda as I am, but maybe you can write her down to her being totally straight, I don't know.
