As the icon shows, I'm still not over this Stand thing.
And now for the actual topic.
A while ago I learned a song about Skåne (my home province) that I hadn't heard before, and it amuses me to find how much I enjoy singing with an accent. Or talking with an accent. Or embracing stereotypes about what people around here are really like. There were plenty of stereotypes in the song - especially the idea of Skåningar being self-assured and hard to impress.
If I'm to do amateur psychology on myself, I think it might be an attempt to prove that I belong. Being a child of two people from further north, I don't have a natural accent. Almost everyone I know have at one point asked me, "Where are you from?" to which I've answered Lund and they said "Really? It's impossible to tell!"
Though there was one girl who said, "Oh, yeah, that makes sense. You have that sort of non-accent many people here do." I could have hugged her.
It gets a bit schizo, being born and raised somewhere and still having to explain your presence all the time. Rather like a mild form of what second-generation immigrants go through, I imagine.
But I can speak with an accent, even though I feel like a total phony doing it. And so I love the times when it's legitimate for me to do so - like in acting, and singing, and joking.
I want to sing a joyful song
about Skåne and its fields and animals.
It may piss some people off, but in that case it's their own fault.
They talk so much about dung and manure, but remember all the good it has done.
So just let them carry on, we'll get by anyway.
Maybe the way we talk doesn't sound so good,
but it is and remains a part of our soul.
It may piss some people off, but in that case it's their own fault.
Even the government are fighting in a Skåne accent,
because most of them have come from our parts.
So just let them carry on, we'll get by anyway.
They feed well on the products of our farms,
and the goose of S:t Martin's day comes from us too.
It may piss some people off, but in that case it's their own fault.
People complain about how our pigs live,
but when the Christmas ham comes they're still enjoy it.
So just let them carry on, we'll get by anyway.
The whole country enjoys the liquor we make.
The sugar beet has taught them how to drink through sugar lumps.
It may piss some people off, but in that case it's their own fault.
Our beaches are both pretty and shining white,
and we also how our little white bunny.
So just let them carry on, we'll get by anyway.
Selma Lagerlöf, who is a fine old lady,
advertised Skåne in her "Nils Holgersson".
It may piss some people off, but in that case it's their own fault.
To think all the good the stork from Skåne has done,
but it doesn't stop people from talking rubbish.
But just let them carry on, we'll get by anyway.
