WOT???

WOT???  Found out why I have been having more respitory issues of late than what a common cold should have guven me.

I wish I had one of my LJ friends icons... a pic of David Tennant with the word WOT??? on the bottom. We're moving this weekend.. rather short-notice... with a two-week old... but for VERY good reason.

So, Little Man pointed up to the ceiling and asked DH what was up there. DH looked up and said a mushroom.  WOT? A mushroom growing out of the living room ceiling. Yeah, sure, that's where we're supposed to grow out garden, right? We needed to take showers, regardless of the problem.. what happened next we totally didn't expect... the ceiling bubbled up like a sponge does when it first gets wet... and was driping onto the carpet.

That wasn't the only problem. The downstairs toilet was leaking from the front of the base as well, which means a "brown" water leak... even though it doesn't look brown, it still has traces of bio-waste material. GROSS!!!!!  Okay, we've been dealing with the occasional cockroach visitor from one of the adjoining units. Had baits out and all that jazz... DH is allergic to cockroaches.

So, I called the management office... and listed out our issues. The person I spoke with, Rozel, agreed that with a fungal growth, it is an automatic move-out situation. She had a maintenance person over within an hour to check things out. He came in, took one look at the ceiling and said "oh no". Now, mind you, the part of the ceiling that the mushroom grew out of shows evidence of previous water damage from the upstairs bathroom. With the conversation I had with the maintenance supervisor later in the afternoon.. I am led to believe that nothnig was really done with the problem before-hand. The jr. mainentance man had all of th eparts and tools needed to fix the downstairs toilet... but the supervisor told him to just re-caulk the toilet. WOT? So, that is why I didn't see the toilet in the hallway,.. knowing that he would have to remove the toilet to fix the problem.. and that he and the toilet would not fit in the space of a water closet at the same time. It gets better (or worse) depending on how you look at things.

So, supervisor looks in upstairs bathroom and determines the leak is from caulking that has seperated from the bathroom shower wall. How can a wall that doesn't get shower spray on it leak enough water to bubble soak the cailing, cause it to drip, and grow a mushroom. Not possible. I am more than willing to bet that there is quite a bit of mold growth between the living room ceiling and bathroom floor as well. No fracken wonder I have to use my inhaler 4 times a day now (per Dr.) *rolls eyes* Supervisor said he will need to cut into the ceiling to determine where the leak is coming from and where to ultimately fix it. Uuuummm... hello, NO.. .not with an asthmatic and a newborn in the residence. If it were a straight water leak.. sure, no problem... but since there was fungal growth... HELL NO!!!!  I told him, he needs to get a fingal expert out here to determine how much damage is done by that and to properly erradicate it. Which, hello... can not be done with an asthmatic and a newborn in the residence. Supervisor told maintenance man to remove the mushroom.... HAHA we have pictures, already... we're not stoopid.

So, we went down to military housing... got the community relations person involved, handed him pictures. Spoke with housing and were able to look at a home, which is available now, the next day. Community relations person and DH both spoke with the actual manager yesterday. We received a letter from the manager releasing us form our lease without any penalties... except she said it was due to a water leak... totally minimized the problem.. pribably to cover their own asses... admit no fault kind of thing. Whatever.. we have pictures and we know how to pick up a phone and call county public health.  The drawback... we won't be able to start moving until Friday, due to paperwork. Pluses... DH is on leave this week... and we should get prorated rent back from the property.. as well as our full security deposit.  Townhouse community dd say that they had another unit we could move into.. we said, thanks but no thanks, we made other arrangements.

We are moving into another townhouse.. but a military one... it is an end-unit, with windows on three walls... (we're curretly in a middle unit with windows front and back only)... the downstairs is twice as big... it has 3-bed instead of 2.... a detached 2-car garage... and a little yard/ patio area.  NICE!!! open space floor plan... bright... lots of counter space.. pantry... laundry room.... NICE!!!!

I am so looking forward to moving in there... it will be a bit of a juggle moving with a 2-week old... another positive... my mom is flying down this Sunday... I know surprising. She will be down for a week, so whe will be able to help me unpack and all that jazz. :-)

Well, I should probably go pack a coule more boxes.... toodles.
