This weekend topped the Jack O Lantern Jog runs of all time. We didn't have rain, we didn't have clear skies, we had frigid 33 degrees and snowing. What more could you ask for in October, right?
So we layered up, had the great debate of whether or not I wear my Merrell's, and braved the cold. After finishing with my best time for this course (26:27), I proved to myself that I will survive running the winter, but my feet will not. I need to find a different minimal shoe that allows for socks and warmth.
This race is so challenging every year and I can proudly say that we were ready this year. Kurtis and I ran our backyard course twice a week with a long flat run once a week and I've got to tell you, those hills in our backyard prepared us. The first two miles of this run is uphill with few flat parts in between. You're busting your butt those two miles! And the last mile is a nice downhill, but you're so busy bracing yourself because it's slippery. And then it ends on an uphill. What kind of course does that? This one. So our backyard training finally had us ready for this race and it felt good.
I loved hearing from my husband after the run that he felt good the whole time - if it weren't for him, there's no way I would have gotten up the first hill as fast as I did. He set a nice pace and we trudged up that hill much faster than I wanted to be doing. He's my rabbit. :)
With Halloween here and nearly gone, I'm eager for November. !November brings snuggling under a blanket on the couch, Christmas shopping for those we love, and getting ready to see those we love for the first time in 4 months! Tomorrow, let the countdown begin.
