A year in review

Dec 14, 2010 11:20

In case I forget what 2010 offered me, here it is in cliff notes:

January: I got my tonsils out this month and enjoyed about five days on the couch and in my cozy apartment. I scrapbooked, organized closets, and watched a lot of CSI. It was a joyous time - minus the drive home from the hospital.

February: I wish I could tell you. Sometimes these months are such a blur in the winter time. I do believe we started our 10k training here. I know January we began 5am workouts, which were ugly, yet really refreshing. After my tonsillectomy, we picked back up to working out in the mornings.

March: Still, no idea. We continued our morning workouts and got really serious about out first 10k.

April: We had Emily come visit during the hottest April ever! It was easily 80 degrees out. We ran the world's most unorganized, hilliest 10k but survived. All of us with our best times as of that date! We celebrated Easter together - a holiday I often overlook, but appreciate that I was able to spend it with my closest friend.

May: This is where all of the fun begins! This is also where my little Santa Fe started gaining some mileage! I didn't really get to celebrate our birthdays this year, and if you know me, you know how frustrating that is. We instead spend my birthday in the car driving back from Michigan. I don't remember much of my birthday except simply celebrating it in Emily Elliott's driveway. At least I was with friends :)

Also in May my entire family went to Virginia Beach for days upon days of relaxing, beaching, Busch Gardening, and golfing. It was one of my favorite family vacations. We grilled out, ate out, ate in, and stayed up late. We jumped on a giant pillow and soaked in the beauty of being together.

And also in May, we celebrated our first anniversary. There were mishaps, but we made it work. With a broken camera, we instead drew a picture of our anniversary that was filled with an edible bouquet, a really nice run, laying and reading in the sun, the melting pot, and a drive in movie.

June: The crazy days of working at the pool began here. I'm surprised that I still don't smell like chlorine after the hours I spent there this summer. We also drove to MI for a wedding. We were so lucky to be able to stay the night with Scott and Val for one night and then on the way back from the wedding we were able to have a quick lunch with family - and see Cindy!

July: Pool. pool. pool. And back to Michigan again for the 4th of July. Now this is a trip I am willing to take every. single. year. And at the end of the month, a surprise trip that Scott and I had been planning since February was finally here! Kurtis and I drove to Kelley's Island and surprised Val with a late birthday weekend celebration for her. And about an hour after our arrival, the birthday celebration turned into an engagement celebration! Next July will surely be an awesome one.

August: Pool. Pool. We headed back to Michigan for one last shebang before school started for Lexi's wedding. A wonderful time was had by all - maybe too much fun! And Andrew and Ashley came up too so we were able to spend time with them. School also started this month! I was scared out of my mind yet ridiculously excited for consistency and no. more. pool!

September: More travels! This time it was weekend for just Kurtis and I. We drove to Philadelphia for a day of seeing the city, walking a million miles, and a nice long run around the artsy part of the city (and the stinky part!). Our second night in the city we went to a Phillies game - a great game! It was an awesome time. We then drove to Baltimore for an Orioles game where we met up with my Aunt Lisa and Uncle Ken. Another great game! We visited with family there, some I hadn't seen in years. Then the next day we went to DC for a National's game - another win! We are 3 for 3 on our baseball stadium travels. Ah yes, and this is the month that Kurtis' softball team won the championship game...and the beginning of Kurtis' leg trials began. And I ran my 2nd 10k with a kick booty time! I beat my last time by more than 6 minutes and was nearly in tears at the end I was so excited. The only thing missing was Kurtis, but he was there to cheer me on at the finish line :)

October: Not a whole lot this month other than a wedding, a halloween party, and Kurtis' leg becoming worse which resulted in a few days spent in the hospital. As tiring as this was and as exhausting as the bills have become (we got a bill for $1.90 yesterday. Are you kidding? I guess it's better than more, but it's just annoying!), it was kind of nice just sharing a hospital bed watching TV and playing card games. I also ran in the Jack O'Lantern jog this month and beat my previous times from years past - still missing; my Mr.

November: Thanksgiving time! Thankfully this month just flew because I couldn't wait to get home to spend time with my family. Just before Thanksgiving, Andrew and Ashley were able to pick up their daughters and are officially mom and dad. What an exciting time! Thanksgiving went too quickly but wasn't as restful as I wanted it to be - I think my little snot nosed students got me sick as I was pretty under the weather most of break - but regardless, it was a break! I was lucky enough to get a day of shopping in with Emily Elliott and I loved every single second of it.

December: And here we are! This month has been simple yet busy all the same - we have a real Christmas tree this year that we cut down, we've had a Christmas party in the comfort of our own home, and now we have one more to head to then it's time for break! A week in Michigan will (hopefully) be relaxing and wonderful.

This year?
Total mileage: a gazillion.
Total memories made: infinite.

I have a feeling 2011 is going to filled with a lot, lot more. We have plans for a move, some financial milestones are just inches away from being met, and I'm eager for my first summer off since 15.  It's going to be another great one.

My greatest blessing of the end of 2010? Beyond having a loving husband every day that comes home to me? A job - no more daily computering looking for a sub job. Every day I know where I'm going - I'm going to a school filled with students that are well behaved and loving.

Again - life is good.
