Yesterday I saw Lisa Loeb in Buffalo and she was FABULOUS. Kat and i drove there at 7:20ish and the show started at 8. But despite the fact we got majorly lost and arrived 8:45, we only missed half of her first song (coincidently, my favorite song, "Do You Sleep?").
The concert was lovely, she sounded amazing. People were pretty rude/annoying to her, but nothing more than drunkenness. And yes, she played both "Stay" and "I Do."
However, at the end of the night, she signed albums. Now, Lisa Loeb, along with Ani and Jewel were like my trifecta of women artists I listened to in high school, during all those really rough times. I really don't like Jewel now, so I don't care to meet her. I nearly fainted when I came relatively close to Ani at the Arundhati Roy event, so I'm pretty sure I'd throw up if I ever got the opportunity to talk to her. So, meeting Lisa Loeb was a pretty big thing for me.
She seemed pretty tired when she finally came out, which I wasn't really sure whether to interpret it as frustration with the fact she felt she HAD to sign autographs to regain popularity with fans, or if she was genuinely tired. Kat and I discussed afterwards, but we didn't think she'd be the kind of person to really be that money-hungry as to be angry with her status in the world of pop culture.
Anyhow, I told her that I have been called "Lisa Loeb" many times in my life, which she laughed at. Then I thanked her for her music, because it really did make a difference in my life. She thanked me for listening and asked if I was in college and what I studied. I told her grad school and English, soon to be Women's Studies. She says "oh is that a lot of theory?" Then we got into a discussion about feminist theory! Me and Lisa Loeb! It only lasted, maybe 15 seconds. But it was still cool :)
Then we took a picture and Kaitlin and I came back to FredOnia. It was a lovely night.
Upcoming events include, papers, presentations, and more papers. Oh and getting drunk at Fred Fest, what WHAT!
