I have always loved libraries. I remember my parents taking me when I was young. It was one of our first stops when we arrived back in North Carolina, to find some entertainment for the long dull hours spent in the Hostess House waiting for housing. Some of my favorite high school summer memories are of riding to work with my father and being dropped off at the library on base to spend the day wandering amongst the stacks picking up whatever caught my eye. I was a library aide in both middle school and high school (I even won a dictionary in seventh grade for having checked out the most books from the library that year). My first honest-to-goodness W2 paycheck job was as the jack-of-all-trades for our local library's summer reading program.
So when Jenn Hubbard suggested that we have
a challenge to donate money to our local libraries, I volunteered right away. I may not have a lot of disposable income right now, but neither do our libraries and their budgets just got drastically cut (along with Education) in the most recent California Budget Crisis.
So here it is, the Library-Loving Blog Challenge!
For every commenter on this post between now and Midnight Pacific Daylight Time on March 28th (ETA - deadline now extended to March 31st, I want to reach that goal!), I will donate $.25 to the
Placer County Libraries, up to an amount of $50.
How easy could it be? You comment, I cough up the money, the library gets a gift! If you don’t know what to say in your comment, “I love libraries” will do.
Note that my pledge is “per commenter”-so if a single person leaves 50 comments, that still only counts once! But you can do more by spreading the word ... please link to this post, and send your friends here so they can comment and raise more money. For a complete list of participating bloggers (and to visit other sites where you can help libraries just by leaving a comment!) visit
