Lightning Strikes

Thunderstorm rolling in. I love how the air smells before it hits, while it rains on, and when the aftermath is absorbed into the earth and trees. Ever since I was a little kid, my brother and I would sit in our garage with the doors wide open or on the driveway under umbrellas (safe, right?) and take in the storm. I've had some of the best conversations with my brother while hiding out and watching a thunderstorm. The best part of a storm is the display of lightning. The bigger the bolts, the brighter the flashes, the better. The most fascinating part is when the light flashes so bright, it appears as if day has reappeared, if only for a second. Then the arguments over where thunder comes from; "Are the angels bowling?" was my favorite. The added bonus to a thunderstorm in the dead heat of summer, it leaves us with a temporary cool down from this seemingly neverending heat.
