Geek defined
From SF Signal's SF Tidbits for 9/18/07 comes this excellent quote about what being a geek means.
SciFi Weekly interviews Naomi Novik, author of Empire of Ivory, book 4 in the Temeraire series. "Being a geek in certain ways is about having deep passions in weird areas and being able to follow them. That is very much what I am."
That's what being a geek means to me! I have passions in weird areas, but I am proud of it. My weird area of passion is sci fi - classic sci fi, literary sci fi. (I'm not you're average Trekkie or Star Wars fan. Star Wars is borderline sci fi anyway.) I also have a tendency to develop intense interest one or two particular TV shows at a time. I'm a geek, and proud of it.
