No tubing today. The weather cleared finally though! I awoke to a very bright bedroom, and figured the tubing was a go. The only problem was today's high of 84 degrees would make it chilly, but since my summer is crammed full of "work" I figured this may be one of my few chances to go tubing this summer. However about an hour before leaving I caught a news report about a flash flood yesterday in New Braunfels on the Guadalupe River. Thirty tubers had to be rescued yesterday along with people rescued from cars and flooded neighborhoods. I figured that the water would be high, but then the report closed with the words that the
"deputies say there will not be any tubing today." We were planning to tube the Comal River rather than the Guadalupe, but between the likelihood that the river would be off limits today and the chilly weather, both Cheryl and I agreed to pass today. It actually give me the opportunity to do things that need to be done. Maybe I need to stop this web playing, huh?
For the uninformed tubing AKA toobing is floating down a Texas river in a innertube. On a big summer weekend like this one there would usually be lots of people, tubes, beer, and coolers on the rivers. There's lots of drunk people, but me being me I don't drink. I just enjoy the floating, friendship, relaxation of being in the water. Hopefully I will get the chance to go tubing with friends later this summer. The next two weekends are out though. I leave next Friday for Louisiana and return nine days later. My pre-deployment training schedule is still TBD (very, very annoying), but the longer the Army waits to start my training, the less time off I'll have later in the summer. I figured I better get my leave in when I can.
