First, the updating...
I am now 27 weeks pregnant. The niftier way to say that, at least for me, is, I can safely deliver in 11 weeks. That's just kinda crazy. :) I'm feeling pretty good and the baby is doing fine. I am having my first baby shower today for the non-sca people in my life. My boss is throwing it for me. She rocks. The one for Scadians will be Saturday at Ducal at 4pm in the Dark Claw camp. Bring a small yummy to share if you can or just stop by and say hi. It is rumored there will be cupcakes...
Just went on a glorious vacation earlier this week. The husband and myself went to Monterey. It was the first time I have ever been there, and it was fabulous. It was just us, no camping, no gear to set up, I could just do whatever I wanted. Heaven! It was a threefold celebration for us. It was our honeymoon, the monday of the it (the 10th) was our 2 month anniversary of being married, and the tuesday (the 11th) it was my birthday. We decided I am 23, because he told me on Monday that I didn't look a day over 22, so obviously, I must be 23 on my birthday. :)
We went to the aquarium on monday. That place is teh cool. I got to touch a Bat Ray and a Starfish. Took lots of little videos with commentary on my daughter's camera and made a DVD for her when we got back. She thought that was nifty. That night we went to dinner at a place called the Fish Hopper. Cute little place on Cannery Row that juts out over the water. Yummy, yummy foods. I had the lobster tail and filet mignon. They were both done perfectly. The husband had Prime RIb and Shrimps. He said it was fabulous too.
The Next day day we went to the Fisherman's wharf next to the aquarium. I bought a dragon statue for Michael and lost my sunglasses. Then we went down to the little beach there in between the Row and the wharf. I picked up some shells for Annie and got some good pictures. Then we went back to the aquarium and got to watch them do a training session with the Otters. That was very cute. They get them to to do behviors that will help them to exam them when they need to with out so much stress for them. Then we were off to Japantown in SF. Pretty nifty place. It' like a big mall and kind of modern. I like Chinatown better. It has more of the open air, old world market feel. I did pick up some new sunglasses for me and a Sepheroth pillow for Annie. Next was Pier 39 at Fisherman's wharf. No longer impressed. Parking was ridiculous (7 dollars an hour as opposed to 2 dollars an hour in japantown) It's become a big tourist trap. I mean, it always kind of was, but it is now really commercial. I got video of Sea Lions and yummy ice cream though, so it wasn't all bad. We were only there for about an hour then it was off to Sasha's in Oakland to pickup some things and drop some things off then home. Note- I HATE driving in San Francisco. Even as a passenger. People there are crazy... shudder.
The wistful rant (sort of)
I have to say, even though I was glad to be going out of town for some other reason than an event, I did miss the SCA quite terribly at one point. It was Monday afternoon and we had just finished at the aquarium and were on our way back to the hotel to rest before dinner. I was VERY worn out and hot by this time and not feeling all that great. We got on the trolley that runs the loop around the area there and there is NO WHERE to sit. Great. In the front of the trollley, there are about 8 or 9 guys (can't call them men) who are taking up most of the seats in that section. Here I am, quite visibly pregnant and hurting and sweating and not a one of them even thinks to get up and offer me his chair/space. SO now I am stuck trying to hold on to the straps while this trolley goes up and down hills. You need a lot of ab muscles to stay in place for that and that HURTS quite a lot when you are already over done. Of course, we discover quite quickly that these guys are in various stages of inebriation and are loud and obnoxious to boot. Ugh. It was not a pleasant ride back. I just really missed the wonderful and chivalrous men (and women) from the SCA who have ALWAYS, offered me a chair or other assistance whenever I have needed it. And sometimes, even when I haven't. I appreciate them with all my heart as most of them, even considerably drunk, are still chivalrous and kind. Thank you very much to all of you who have ever helped me or anyone else that needs it.
