what has happened of late.
Saturday all my family and I celebrated the birthdays of my dad and Tim. We went to dinner and then went to my mom and dads house to play some card games. We had alot of fun. Then on sunday Jenns friend from her previous job, Terri, came over to hang out and chat. While she was here I got a call from my dad. My mothers dad has been sick and in long term care facilities for some time now recovering from a stroke, the shingles, and pneumonia. Sadly nobody is tough enough to not succumb to death. He died sunday morning. I think that he may have welcomed it. My grandfather has always been so very strong and any sort of weakness in himself would have made him very uncomfortable and unhappy. He was born during the depression and started to work before he was 9 years old selling newspapers and anything else he could do to improve the family finances. He went to world war 2 as an air force pilot and was assigned to be a ball turret gunner. His plane crashed behind the enemy lines and he was taken as a prisoner of war. He endured forced marches, terror, hunger and many other things that i am sure he never told anyone about. He at one time was lucky enough to find a live chicken that he killed, skinned and then ate raw-even shared with a buddy-and was happy to have had the chance to eat it. On Friday I will be going to houston to the funeral. I know that if I did not go i would regret it later. Hopefully i can be a moral booster for my mom. I know that it is always a great wrench to lose a parent, no matter how old the child or how sick the parent.
