Do You Kill Figments of Your Imagination When They Piss You Off?

So, I just about had the craziest, and most infuriating dream, ever.

Y'all know I'm trying to get a bunch of folks here on the East coast to band together so that I can bring Abney Park and the like here, yeah?

Well, I had a dream last night (technically, this morning. I was woken up this morning, which lead to me having two particularly violent Abney Park songs stuck in my head, which might have had a big part to do with this dream...) where I had finally managed this concert. AP was there, and DNBS was there, and that techno band at Dragon*con (I never went to their show, but their music was always on when you walked onto the concert hall/art hall floor, and so they're subliminally stuck in my head), as well as a couple local bands. I know this last part because a familiar face (meaning he was a school buddy -- but by buddy, I mean, someone I could recognise, not a friend) was there with his "band" (I think they were rappers, which kind of disgusts me) and Lenora was there with another couple of people I didn't know, and she was hanging out with AP, so I assume she was with a band. I'm not surprised. She's awesome like that. So it starts out we're all hanging out, and Kristina from AP shows up. She looks kind of down (I never saw Finn), so I go over there to comfort/bug/hang out with her. She seemed to just tolerate my presence and was killing time, until Dan and Nate showed up -- turns out she was waiting rather impatiently for Roger. We go off to find him (I'm actually kind of following in fangirlish stalkerish thing, ashamed as I am to admit it) and we find him. Fortunately, he wasn't all emo captain, but worse -- he was pissed off. Unbeknownst to my consciousness, subconsciously, Robert Brown is very fluent in French. Yeah, very weird. kind of like I am with Spanish. Might be more what I had in mind. Anyway, apparently someone had said something very insulting to him and he was pissed off about it, so the first time I see him, he's storming in and filing a complaint. The bugger I had working for me is apparently an asshole and turned to those around him, saying, "I don't know what XX means, but apparently XX is bad. Everyone, avoid XX." Which made Brown even more pissed off because the bastard was mocking him. Fortunately, Kris was there, so I kind of tried to get out of the angry captain's way. I looked about a bit more -- finding lots of people I didn't know, and then decided to look around for someone else to hang out with. I ended up looking through doors that were to hold visiting band members, and I found Lenora. With two others. And Abney Park. I pulled her aside and said, "You're bunking with AP!? No fair!" And then, the fangirlish addition. "Is there another bunk?" "Is there another bunk?" she repeated disbelieving. "Of course there is!" I'm sure she thought I just wanted to bunk with her, but both are equally true. After that, we got to the show. People were sitting down, and all was jabbering and a bit disorganised, and I got the distinct impression that I had organised this whole damn thing by myself. I was kind of impressed, but also flustered that I was responsible for making sure this thing went. So, I checked the mikes -- of the two on stage left, one worked. I set that one to be easier reached. On the other, all five worked. I pulled one out for announcements. I did the whole "Testing, one two three..." thing and got everyone's attention, and started welcoming them to the show -- all of this was ad lib. There was no order. I think more that it was I who organised the band getting here, and the actually program was to be set up by someone else, who'd disappeared. I hope they got in a gruesome car accident, because it was horrible. The douschebag schoolmate who I mentioned earlier came up with his dumbo friend halfway through my announcing that "if you like what you hear, the bands will have their merch tables in the dealers room..." trying to give me his set list. I about beat the shit out of him. "You can give me that in thirty seconds!" and I kicked him off the stage -- not literally. But god, I wanted to. I finished the announcement and then went about getting an act on stage to start, since I really wasn't sure who all was there and who all was ready, as there were like nine bands and I only knew half of them. So, a bunch of people started getting on stage -- at least five, although I think they were an orchestral act, as they started pulling out twenty mikes with white tips that I had not seen. I inquired as to where they got them, whether they worked, etc., feeling like an absolute dolt, when I finally woke up.

Afterthoughts: if I do do this thing, even by myself, I am going to make sure that travelling accomodations are made so that the bands do NOT have to deal with assholes who will insult them. Also, rooms should be booked in advance, so I know where everyone is. Also, no idiots. And no rookies. If we must have rookies, they need to be schooled in how things are properly done. Band order in advance -- set lists CAN be given at the concert, or not given to me at all, provided they have one. I know Tony and the band had a set list like a day in advance for the RumRunners set at Dragon*con, but when they were doing thirty minute long shows at RenFaire, they kind of came up with it that morning, and revised whenever they felt like. Big shows last. Like AP. I'd hate the suspense, but they're too awesome. Anyone after would be overshadowed. Which is a shame. But would totally happen. Dealers room after, a very good idea. Letting the bands consort with the fans -- seeing the show with the fans, even -- a very good idea. Make sure all mikes are checked and there are enough for everyone. I knew AP had five members, so I was happy, but an orchestral group? I wish I'd known they had their own mikes. Also, i thought after, lighting. I know Robert Brown does his own lighting, but I need a lights guy to set them up for the bands. And I don't even know what was going on with the damn tickets or who was paying for what.

*sighs* But besides all that, it sounded like it could have been fun. It'll be a long checklist, but if it goes smoothly, it'll be great fun.

So... anyone want to help plan a concert?
