Fun Stuff - Erisian Theory

So, quick question: Do you know who Eris is?

If nothing else, you'll know her from "the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" -- I think Grim has the hots for her, if I'm right. Essentially, she was a Greek goddess (the goddess of laughter, chaos, discord, and mayhem and mischeif, in a vague blanket statement of sorts.) who was not invited to (I believe Zeus and Hera's, though I didn't look it up) wedding, and so she tossed her golden Apple of Discord in amongst the goddesses at the party, addressed to "the prettiest one". Of course, being a bunch of vain goddesses, they all fussed and fighted over who was prettiest, resulting in the Trojan War down below. Mind, there's no real research here, just vague rememberances. Don't shoot me.

The point of the matter is, I like this chick. She is like the Yang to your Ying. The Darkness to your Light. The Bad to your Good. She's the Chaos to your Order, and she sounds like loads of fun. But, not only is she the goddess of Chaos and Discord, she's also the goddess of Laughter.

Because honestly. Why would you toss an apple like that? To laugh at the fools who really will fight over who is the "prettiest". Like she wanted to go to the wedding anyway -- she probably just crashed it for kicks and giggles. And from what I know of her, I believe it. Either way, I found an article from one of her children, which I got to when trying to figure out when "Eris Day" was, but I suppose, seeing as she's Eris, it could be any day you like. Which is what counts, I suppose. A new LJ steampunk friend (heya bsti !) mentioned not celelbrating Halloween, but instead dressing up for Eris Day. Pagans are so much fun :D .

I suppose if I was to ever be Pagan, I would be a Discordian/Erisian -- it suits me. I mean, I love Shakespeare's Fools for a very similar reason. A good clown/jester/fool needs to be able to laugh at the world and not take him/herself or even the world too seriously. Eris tells us to not be so stuck up and obsessed with rules and democracy and follow the rules just for the sake of following them and consequently lose ourselves, but to balance things with a bit of chaos and laugh at ourselves every so often, so we don't take ourselves too seriously.

As it is, I'm talking to G.D. Falksen (He looks hawt!) and I'm going to do a little show and tell with my costume (I told you, I gots new tings!) and when I get home, I shall add to them, yes?

Will add more later!

Lots of Love,
