Two Actions for NOLA Public Housing

Two upcoming actions in New Orleans, sponsored by Survivors Village, (www.survivorsvillage.com) will challenge the federal government and city of New Orleans to uphold the United Nations "Guiding Principles of Internally Displaced People."
Although many public housing units in New Orleans faced only minor damages in Hurricane Katrina, HUD seeks to demolish 5000 public apartments.
After severe looting of the apartments, HUD spent several thousand dollars to fence the units off with barbed wire and metal doors and windows, in an effort to stop residents from returning and begin putting their lives bacck together.

Action 1:
Saturday, July 1 5:00 PM
Iberville Development, corner of Basin and Bienville
Rally and March.
Peaceful march through the French Quarter to disrupt "business-as-usual" and highlight the continued abuses going on a few miles from where tourists are usually located.
Demands: Basic Human Right to safe housing. (UDHR Articles 3, 17, 22, 25)
Right of Return
Preservation of public housing

Major Protest to reopen Public Housing
3800 block St. Bernard Ave.
Bring a sleeping bag if you plan to stay at the village
