On the way home from chicago, I was surrounded by native chicago-ers on the bus, and we got to talking. Basically: Chicago beaches = littered with zillions of people taking up every square inch and dirty diapers, Michigan beach = clear water, sparse amounts of people, NATURE, real sand? (not including metro beach), Childhood in chicago = shopping, shopping, clubbing?, shopping, materialism. Childhood in Michigan = free to roam around, ride bikes, play in BACKYARD, enjoy being outside. Chicago = $900 to rent out a basement (affectionately called a garden level apartment) with 2 small ass windows equivalent to dungeous. No backyard, no front yard, lucky to have a potted plant on a balcony just so you can be close to aforementioned clubbing and shopping. Michigan = $900 for a 3 bedroom historic home backyard front yard garage driveway abundant garden, basement larger than a "garden level apartment", within walking distance to shopping, bars, etc.

I could go on forever. I could write a novel. New Baltimore wasn't even a bad place to grow up, and not a bad place to have a family. Not so much a good place to be in your 20s. MICHIGAN PRIDE FOREVER.
