I went out Friday night as a goodbye to two of my coworkers and friends. It's a place many of us used to frequent almost every Friday night as a way to relax and actually be able to talk with each other (we work in retail, so there really isn't a lot of time for chitchat at work).
I had the benefit of knowing the menu and knowing what I wanted to order - it's called the "steak bite salad", and it's AWESOME! It has lots of dark green lettuce, cubes of steak, shredded cheese, and honey mustard. I used my experience from last week's restaurant trip and bought my own fat free shredded cheese and found some lowfat dressing that might be able to replace the honey mustard dressing. I was READY.
I got there late for various reasons, but the rest of the gang was there, and we had a really good time. Many people brought their significant others, and everyone got along really well.
Because I was late, I didn't order the salad upstairs. I knew we'd have to move downstairs (they closed the third floor earlier than the main floor), so I decided to order down there. We got downstairs, and I started to remember the attitudes of the waiters - one NEVER even came to ask us to order! We've always been big tippers (we're not rich, but we make sure to appreciate waitstaff), and we do our best to be low maintenance (we ask for pitchers of water when there's a large group, that sort of thing). We'd have gone elsewhere, but there really isn't a place close enough to our store that closes around 2am, so we're stuck.
So, I never got my salad. I was bummed, but I've decided to look at it as a great run-through. I can do this - I can be prepared and eat out and show discipline and have a great time. Wow, what a realization!
And it only took me 40 years to come up with it!
