Rant time! Everybody, stop up your ears. Or eyes. ^_-

So how was everybody's Thanksgiving? Our was definitely... unusual. In an amazing turn of cluelessness/stupidity/I don't even know what, we managed to end up at 6 o'clock with no food save some stuffed fish, and all the stores closed. But! We found an open Chinese restaurant, some yams, cranberry sauce and some gravy, and with some simple re-working of the idea of a traditional meal (and creative utilization of cupboard contents) managed to still end up with more food than we could eat. ^^ We had duck instead of turkey, but hey, I hate turkey anyway.

In other news, Marc Bolan (besides being a sexy bitch) also makes for a very good muse. :) I am currently drawing a picture of him in the guise of Oberon, and by all accounts, should be having great difficulty with it. When I first started drawing it, I couldn't figure what to dress him in, so I thought, oh fine, I'll just draw him wearing as little as possible then; he's a fairy anyways.

Luckily I had his body positioned in such a way as to enable me to draw him with no clothing at all, had I so wanted, but I thought at least some might be prudent, so my Oberon-Marc ended up wearing what seems to be three torn strips of gauze wound about his torso, a cape, and boots.

It was only when I started to try and shade him in that I remembered the fact that, hey, it's really hard to do realistic shading without any reference material! And since Marc (unfortunately) did not have too many half-naked pictures taken of himself, I was left in a bit of a quandary. Not to mention that as much as I suck at shading without models (whenever I try it, the picture invariably turns out flat and lifeless), I suck at drawing the male body even more.

But then! A miracle happened, or something like it. :) I turned on my cd, picked up my pencil, and suddenly by some stroke of divine providence, everything was coming out *right,* and it was so easy, that I finished in 2 hours what would usually take me 2 days to do. I would be very impressed with myself, if I wasn't so flabbergasted. I've never done that well drawing almost purely from imagination before.

So yeah. Marc is great inspiration. If Bowie's "The Prettiest Star" wasn't about him, well, it should have been, and then maybe it would have been a better song. After all, "Lady Stardust," which is about Marc, is one of his best.

Speaking of Bowie's songs and Marc Bolan... my Bowie book says that Bowie's "Black Country Rock" was supposed to be something like a slightly mocking mimicry of Bolan, a "sticking out of the tongue" at him, as he was more successful at the time. Now, it's true that the whinnies and the sharp "Whoa-ow!" scream sound like Bolan, in particularly his "Jewel," "One Inch Rock" (or do I mean "Hot Love"?) and "Ride a White Swan," but really, had Bowie wanted to make fun of/imitate Bolan, he should have simply taken any song, and put in little "Aah!"s and "Oh!"s randomly throughout, and then a longer string of "Ah-ah-oh!-mmmmmm-ah-woah-oh!-ah-ah-ah!" at the end, and finished by yelling, "Take me!" and that would've done the job.

Of course then Marc would've ran over to his studio and there would have been quite a hair-pulling, but, well. :)

(Hey, that could have been fun to see!)
