Why can't anyone dress Christina Hendricks properly? Is it really that hard? Does she herself have terrible taste, since they manage to dress her just fine on Mad Men? What is UP with that?
Her Golden Globes dress was close to being good, and maybe it looked better in-real-life rather than on photos (specifically I mean the color).
In some photos, it was too light and rather washed her out, in some others (like below) it was a slightly brighter brassy color that actually looked really nice and gave her a golden glow. I keep hoping it was more vibrant in real life, but she seems to
like dresses in
nude colors (and they always wash her out!), so maybe not.
The ruffles were... kind of too much, but that is not my problem. My problem is that whatever kind of support she had on under her dress gave her breasts a
weird edgy egg-carton look and that the zipper line of her bodice didn't actually fit her torso, but rather jutted out at her waist. And this was a dress that was made for her! Couldn't they have managed to build in some smooth-looking bust support (and, crazy as it is, add thicker cups/padding if necessary) and tailor it so that it aligned better with her torso? It was a zip-up dress, they could have made that baby go on like a second skin. I mean, she looked great anyway because she's insanely gorgeous, but it always seems like she looks good because her beauty overshadows what she's wearing rather than being complemented by it.
The same problem occurs here:
This dress WOULD be so pretty on her, if it were better tailored! WHY is there that fabric gap right above her waist, again? Why is the support undergarment so bulky and visible? I understand she has a lot to support, but that's why all her dresses need to have that sort of thing built in.
This is I think the one time I've seen her in a dress that fit well and was flattering.
I'm not enamored of the black lace train, but look--a color that makes her complexion pop! A bodice that accentuates her curves, shows off her cleavage, and provides support without mangling her breasts! A dress that flatters both her bust and her hips! Why is this so rare?
Dear Christina: if you don't want to be limited to Joan Holloway-style body-hugging wiggle dresses, please go with this silhouette more often. It looks amazing on you and yet you never wear it except for magazine photo shoots.
Mostly she shows up to places in flowy muu-muu-type garments of questionable color that smush up her boobs and make her look wider than she is. Or else she wears a lot of dowdy black.
I know that she has the kind of figure that most designers don't regularly create for or accommodate, and she's not of the super-high-profile super-rich actresses, but even she should be able to afford a decent tailor for the fancy red carpet events. Or
someone to do her makeup, for that matter.
I just don't get it.
