Livejournaland continues to amaze me.

All right, so most of you aren't very interested in the s&m proclivities of medieval mystics.

I continue to be spooked by the fact that lj-world, which in general I consider to be vast and random and removed from my life, likes to mess with my head every so often.

Like when various lj-friends I've made through extremely scattered sources suddenly show up on other friends' livejournals. The last time, this happened with rachiestar and greensword and a_priori, (to further the confusion, I consider all of these more "real-life people" than "lj people" and the disparity of the circles they occupy in my real life was part of the bizarreness) but now they all know each other and I'm not so very confused by it anymore.

I still think it's weird that my cousin dangermousie is on my high school friend's autumnflame's friends-list, but at least I was somewhat responsible for that when I used to plug her journal.

Now it seems shvetufae, my one fellow-online-and-fandom-loving friend that I made through my grad studies, is at the center of the latest surprise spottings.

First she showed up on the Sweet Valley High recap community I joined. We'd never discussed SVH (really, this is not something I tend to discuss with people), but I took this in stride. "I suppose it makes sense," I reasoned.

Then I was talking to her on the phone and suddenly it turned out she knew who thegreatmissjj was. Here I was indeed taken for a bit of a spin. I knew JJ from our way-back giddy participation in a Jack Sparrow community from the summer that PotC I first came out, and eventually from hanging out with her in NY. Shveta lived in Philadelphia, and was not particularly into PotC, the Libertines, skydiving, or stuffed seals, that I was aware of. How did Shveta know of her? But oh right, JJ was writing a fantasy-tinged young adult book, and Shveta was involved in a lot of fantasy-writing-related things. So, all right, I could see how that would happen.

But now here I am, reading Neil Gaiman's journal, and he's hanging out with Amanda Palmer, doing some kinda picturebook thing. And I see a link to the journal of Amanda Palmer's assistant Beth, where Neil tells us to go for a funny story. Beth's journal immediately provides a link to kylecassidy, who I assume is the photographer behind the picturebook. To make sure, I click on the userinfo, which tells me that he lives in Philly "with actress, trillian_stars." Just as long as I am clicking all over the place, I click on her lj too.

Only to read in her first public entry that she met up with shvetufae yesterday, as Shveta was apparently coming from Kinko's with the first full manuscript of her first novel.

Shveta, when I come visit you next weekend, I now expect that we will randomly run into at least 5 people that I somehow know and have never known you knew! Also, I want to read your shiny novel.

friends, neil gaiman, internet
