So, a livejournaler I tend to browse,
theferrett, just made an entry about talking to his dad about his girlfriend, and then being told that the dad's on speakerphone and the girlfriend is in the room with him.
People responded with their own stories of a similar nature, including a woman who reminisced about going off on a rant about people naming their kids boring dime-a-dozen names like "Jennifer" and "Michelle," only to find out that one of the people she was talking to had a daughter named "Jennifer Michelle."
I responded to the effect that, while "Jennifer" or "Michelle" would not be my choice in names, at least boring names are better than so-called "interesting" ones, that come across as kid cruelty.
...then I scroll down, and read in another comment by her that she named her own kids "Storm" and "Lorelei."
...
(Lorelei's a nice name actually. But then, I want to name a possible male offpsring Alistair, and that's weird enough for some.)
ETA: On a totally different note--crap! Looks like I won't get any work done, ever.
There's also a 19th century conference this weekend at Rutgers.
