I spent today not doing any reading, but instead, quite literally, at the mall. I think that browsing through Shopaholic Ties The Knot, or whatever that book is called, before bedtime yesterday must have somehow imprinted hidden messages on my subconcious, because I managed to buy way too many things and spend rather too much money. I went in intending mostly to look for a pair of black pants and maybe a sweater/t-shirt or two, and ended up buying somewhere around $200+ in clothing.
I think it was a combination of not having been to any of my old familiar stores in a while, the idea of "needing winter clothes," and all that damn Christmas music they were playing. It's really insidious, I tell you! It makes you think of shopping and gets you all holiday-ish, and you forget things. Like, literally. When I was getting in the car, I actually forgot that it wasn't winter break yet and that I was just home for Thanksgiving, and then when I got home, I realized I didn't even remember some of the stuff I bought. I was shaking the bags out in suprise, going, "oh wow, I got that? And this too?"
The good news is that at least I really like the clothes I bought. Well, I got some plain tees and two sweaters that were bought for practicality rather than aesthetics (you can never have enough plain t-shirts!), but otherwise, I think it's pretty stuff.
Anna says I look like a frumpy librarian in this, but eh. It actually reminds me of
antiscian's Halloween costume as Yulia Tymoshenko.
This jacket is actually a nice bright burgundy. And looks old-style militray-cum-Victorian. I tried to make the color show up better
here but I don't think it worked. I hate that burgundy never comes out on camera.
This color does, though.
Um, yeah, that's a very awkward pose. Jacket is purple crushed velvet, so it's not showing up too great, either.
This is my Tim Burton jacket! It's black with white pinstripes and sharp lapels. Of course, like the other jackets, it's not keen on photographs.
Meanwhile, arden B. is selling my dream clothes, but they're quite expensive. I'm debating on whether to ask for any of 'em for Christmas--I'm supposed to make a wishlist this weekend, and don't really want anything other than a food processor, but I kind of feel guilty about stocking up on clothing I don't actually need after I just bought so much.
It's the exact kind of Renaissance and 18th century Romanticism with a touch of Victoriana meets Jimi Hendrix that I so like.
Yes, I like fashion. I refuse to feel guilty about it!
Rather "meh" on the fur-and-leather trend, though. I like the 40s, I do, but... meh.
To add to my holiday confusion, it's now snowing outside. Sticking, too. I only hope it snows so much come Christmas!
And on one last random note, omigoodness!
The Boondocks crew is having the same Thanksgiving dinner as we will be, give or take some yams and roasted squash!
...wait, nevermind, I initially misread that last panel as saying they had Tofurkey. Darn.
