My beamish boy

Thanks so much to those of you who commented on the situation with Jacob and my sister. I'm sorry I never got around to replying to them, but I really REALLY appreciated your words, and it helped me put it all in perspective. I've come to the conclusion that every family has a runner...a child who cannot, for some reason, be happy where he/she is and will do whatever it takes to get away. Sometimes those kids get forced into really awful situations and end up in jail, or on the streets or hooked on drugs. Sometimes they wait and build up unhappiness and hatred until they're old enough to escape safely and then they just never come back. After about 3 weeks back and forth, Jacob seems seems happier and more relaxed when he IS at home and doesn't seem quite as anxious to get away again at the end of the weekend.

Actually, this weekend I've had Jake and 2 of Lisa's kids because her youngest is really sick. I was supposed to take them all back tomorrow afternoon, but Lisa now thinks maybe Lauren has Mono, so if the test comes back positive, I won't be letting Jacob return for a while. I talked to him about it and he was totally cool with it. He said "Yeah, I don't want to get sick."

So anyway, I'm feeling a million times better, and I'm grateful that my son does have somewhere safe where he can be happy and take a break for a while. I'm definitely seeing this as more of a positive thing now that I've stopped feeling so threatened. So thanks f-list. You guys are awesome!
