Exercising my first amendment rights

Recent discussions between myself and a friend (some of which I've posted here) have made me decide that it's time to get off the fence and inform the church that I'm no longer a member despite what they may think. This evening I hand delivered a copy of the following letter to the bishop of the ward in which I currently live. Shawn came with me ( Read more... )

I don't mind at all adding you as my friend. I'm flattered. Though I expect you'll find I'm rather dull and don't post nearly as often as I really should. Still, we post-mormons need to stick together. Speaking of which...I posted a little more about how things are going in a thread called 'godspeed' over at postmormon.org. I'll probably copy it over to LJ if I can keep that thought in my brain long enough to accomplish it. Seems like everything gets put on the back-burner until I neglect to do it at all. Early brain-death over here!

About finding out who the bishop was...I'm in Salt Lake and on very friendly terms with several of my mormon neighbors so it wasn't difficult to find out. In theory, you should be able to call the membership office of the church and find out what ward you live in and who the bishop is. mormonnomore.com had a phone number just for that if I recall correctly. Or you could check if there is an LDS website with information about what ward boundary you live in.

I wanted to tell you how much I liked the cc of the letter you sent to Sara. You made some really good points and worded it so well. I meant to write you both back giving you a Huzzah! for you point of view on things. Unfortunately that's another of those things that got put off until I forgot about it entirely. In any case, I think she has a fine friend in you.
