Six out of seven family members have now succumbed to the current plague infecting our home. It starts with a vague unwell feeling, followed by a sudden high fever and exhaustion. Within 24 hours the sore throat and cough from hell begin. These are accompanied by congestion, headache, weakness, body aches, dizziness and lack of appetite. The fever portion seems to last 2-3 days. We're not sure how long the rest lasts because we all still have them. I'm on day six and woke up thinking I felt pretty good aside from the cough. But I sat down to read and fell asleep again only two hours after I got up. Now my head is back to spinning and aching and I feel like a walking zombie. I did check in with a doc-in-the-box yesterday because my lips and fingertips were kind of numb for 24 hours. But he was Captain Obvious, told me I had the flu and I should go home and rest. Surprisingly, Ben is the one healthy person among us. Of course he was the only one of us who had a flu shot. He may be proof that the flu shot actually works. Knock on wood!
In better news...Mel turned 15 this week, and the twins turned 13. Which means we went from 1 teenage daughter to 3 teenage daughters overnight. We had to postpone their parties though. Poor babies had a rather disappointing birthday. We'll make it up to them next weekend.
Sara also found out this week that she's been accepted into the Advanced Placement program for school. This means she'll go to a different Junior High and all of her academic classes will be with other kids ahead of grade level. Also, she'll have a lot more choices for electives. I think I would have been scared to death of leaving my friends, but she's being really great about it.
More when my head stops spinning....
