I was looking through old entries today and I came across a list of books I wanted to read from, oh, you know, almost a year ago, and do you know how many I have read since then? One. I have read “The Other Boleyn Girl,” which, honestly, I have only read because I was stranded in the airport with it. This is not imply I don’t read, because I do-all the time. Its just that when all my course work requires reading ranging from “Genetics” (such a fun summer) to “The Hostile Gene” with a light dose of “The Last Colonial Massacre" and “Resisting Reagan” thrown in, all I really want to read in my spare time is Meg Cabot and Terry Pratchett. Speaking of which, anyone have any actually good but not heavy (more in a literary sense--emotionally heavy is ok, actually pretty cathartic for me) recommendations? I'll read pretty much any genera.
Books I want to read (take 2):
- The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
- On the Road Again by Jack Kerouac
- Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- A Clockwork Orange
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
- Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
- Catch 22
- Sophie’s World
And now some randomness that I have been collecting:
- Some really interesting quote from some random article: "...the relationship between love, possession, and how possession is actually the opposite of love. When you love someone, you love them regardless of whether they return the favor. Which is a scary thing, but ultimately we lose all that we love, so get used to it. Possession is a manic response to this uncertainty, and it’s a way to try and guarantee that you will be loved back. It breeds insecurity, causes people to snoop, doubt, and obsess over past lovers." I have no comment on this, I was just intrigued.
- NPH, I am not alone in my love...
- Oh, and while I'm procrastinating, this (or this) is what I'm procrastinating from. Have I mentioned how much better my life is now that I'm only minoring in Biology? Because its awesome.
