And the rain came a-tumblin' down

The weather forecast for this week was saying hot and dry. Very hot, and very dry. I was grumpy about this, because if it could be 80 or below all year round, I wouldn't be unhappy about that. And raining or snowing half the week. Couldn't be happier. But I repent of my wicked ways and will stop grumbling. Bring on the hot and dry, because this morning I had a flood.

One of my sprinklers got left on overnight (yeah, totally my fault, despite my mother trying to take the blame for it.) So half of my basement decided to evolve into a swamp. There are things that live in swamps. Slithery things. And we all know how well I do with slithery things.

It's not all bad, though. I have a carpet cleaner. I spent the morning sucking water out of the carpet in two rooms (epic swamp crawl, it was) and missed part of church because of this. God will forgive me.

This actually brings up a fascinating possibility: I could redo the floors down there. Okay, money and the ability to move the piano out of the way willing, but it's a possibility, right? I could do, maybe vinyl flooring that resembled hardwood. Or fluffy carpet instead of the current carpet that is very bold about saying "I am cheap rental carpet, and put in by a do-it-yourselfer with more enthusiasm than skill."

With a vinyl floor I'd still have to shell out for rugs, because one does not play the cello without somewhere to stick the endpin, and that somewhere had better not involve gouging a hole in my floor.

... And yes, I am looking at paint samples now.
