Reasons to ♥ AO3

They have the ability to filter and find stuff like this: 782 works for Alternate Universe--Coffee Shops & Cafes

Sure, I have to sift through the ubiquitous boy band fandoms that I've never heard of, but GENIUS. *grabby hands*

Downside-- I think kudos are about the laziest thing ever. I guess it's better than nothing at all, but it's usually a "Great story! I can't be bothered to comment on something I enjoyed so much so I'll just click this shiny button instead, because it's totally the same, right?" Admittedly, I've been guilty of this (especially if I read on my phone, which is sooooo not AO3 friendly) but it's kind of a license to laze, imho. (More active AO3ers, do you like this function? Do you find it gets you more total feedback/fewer comments/what?)

edited ETA: A lot of people really like this function and feel I'm being too hasty with my previous judgment here. Many friends have given me a very wide variety of reasons they like or use or even prefer kudos, and I admit it's opened my eyes a lot more. Will be pondering this as I explore AO3 more and all its cool functions. Thanks for the feedback, you guys! I appreciate you helping me to be more aware and appreciative. I am leaving my (slightly snotty) original text here, because it's important for me to remember that I can be kind of jerky and make hasty judgments and not appreciate others' experiences/preferences instead of just whitewashing it. Learning curve and whatnot. Gotta keep myself honest.

I'm writing. I'm writing. I'm writing. And I think I finally managed to get over the hump of a really tricky transition! So wheee!! Come bring me coffees, lovelies and I'll write your favorite drink into my story. (Just what you always wanted, right?) So far, most of the drinks mentioned in my previous coffee conversation post have been incorporated, which has been much fun.

I have 3 hours til my husband gets home and starts distracting me with his thereness, so I better get cracking. *ponders going back to kitchen and making another cup of coffee*
