It had sounded like a great idea at the time. Neville's greenhouse always did excellent business at Christmas time selling wreaths, boughs, and garlands. Ginny truly thought she was helping, using a few charms to expedite the process, get the orders finished, and possibly get her husband home early for Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, the magical fir trees did not take kindly to charms, no matter how well-intentioned. That was how Neville and Ginny Longbottom found themselves stranded inside their own greenhouse, surrounded by a thick, unyielding (though nice-smelling) wall of evergreen on Christmas Eve.

Ginny stomped around, yelling inappropriate threats at their organic prison, while Neville watched in exasperated amusement. Finally, the anger stage faded into frustration. Unshed tears glistened in her brown eyes as she continued to mutter rude and disparaging comments at the plant, which didn't seem to notice her ire. Neville silently pulled her down and stroked her long, red hair.

"I'm sorry, Neville. I shouldn't have done that without verifying that it would go all crazy prison plant. I really didn't think it would hurt--it was just a simple adhesive charm for the bows. I just wanted to help you finish so we could have a proper Christmas Eve." She sounded pathetic and apologetic, a disconcerting combination coming from his fiery, self-assured, proud, and capable wife.

"Ginny," he said softly, pushing her chin up to make her meet his eyes. "It's fine."

"We're stuck in a greenhouse on Christmas Eve, Neville! This is not exactly what I had planned for us! There were presents and cider and those tiny pies you like and the pretty Christmas tree we picked out and a rather naughty Christmas nightgown that I was going to put on later ..."

Neville shrugged and wrapped his arms around her, pulling in her close against his chest.

"Think of this as a really big Christmas tree. At least we're together. I can think of a lot worse ways to spend Christmas Eve than here with you."

Ginny smiled slightly. "It could be worse."

"Now, what was this about a Christmas nightgown?"

"It's at home, Neville. I don't have it with me."

Neville gave her a heated look and pulled at her jumper. Ginny shot him a surprised look, then laughed, back to her usual self already. "Maybe this isn't so bad after all," she agreed. Reaching behind her to unclasp her bra, she winked at him.

Neville shook his head, still amazed at how he ended up with such an incredible, beautiful, resilient woman at his side. He ran his callused thumbs lightly over her breasts, making her shiver, her long, pale torso gleaming in the moonlight spilling in from the glass ceiling above them. Pressing her gently to the ground, he lost himself in her kisses, strong, loving, and fiery as Ginny herself.

She impatiently began working his clasps and buttons, her small hands tickling slightly as she worked. Her legs wrapped loosely around him as if he might pull away if she didn't hold onto him and Neville felt a warm rush of pride that this amazing woman wanted him just as incredibly much as he wanted her. He would never get over how lucky he was.

As he pushed slowly into his wife, her eyes met his, mirroring the love he was sure was shining in his own brown eyes. Surrounded by a chaotic mess of evergreen, trapped in a dimly lit greenhouse with a chilly floor, he thought this might be the best Christmas of his life.
