Fun at the Hangar: EVACUATE EVACUATE EVACUATE!

Ah, it's that time of year again-- recurrent training. All flight attendants are required to complete a extensive bit of training annually, reviewing all the fun emergency basics, in order to remain certified with the FAA.

Because of this requirement, I spent all day at the hangar running through aircraft mock-ups, donning life vests, doing water evacuation preparations, screaming out evac commands (RELEASE SEAT BELTS! GET OUT! OPEN WING EXITS! COME THIS WAY! GET OUT! GO GO! etc.), reviewing first aid procedures, and being quizzed on proper procedures for decompressions and incapacitated pilots and heart attacks and electrical failures and all sorts of other horrid scenarios.

I aced the written exam (100%-- hell yeah!) and all my evacs so I'm certified for another year. It's really not that hard, but is it lame to be proud of myself? I have to go back tomorrow for another day of training with the pilots, covering security stuff and haz-mat and whatever the hell else they decide to talk about (fatigue is bad, don't come to work drunk because that's bad, don't sexually harass people because that's bad-- all topics covered in previous years) I hear we don't have to beat up a dummy as part of self-defense training this year though, so score.

It's all genuinely good stuff to know. Especially considering my lousy luck. And I really do love my job and I find this stuff a great challenge and a lot of fun. Maybe I'm just crazy. :)

On a fandomy note, I'm going to need betas for two ficlets very soon! One Harry Potter and one Star Trek, both het (no, seriously) and neither will be all that long. They aren't quite finished yet, but I'm hoping in the next couple days. Volunteers? *bats eyes winningly*
