A little over three weeks ago Sesame managed to hurt her eye somehow - something kinda perforated her eye and there was trauma and a blood clot and a bubble in there - poor kitty was none too happy. Took her to the (locum) vet who took one look at her and referred her to a veterinary opthalmologist.
Who knew there was such a thing? Heh.
Anyway - there are only two in Perth so I had a great 110km round trip at 4pm on a Saturday to get her checked out. And of course she is also hyperthyroid and has early kidney failure to complicate things so the normal routine surgery fix isnt the best option. Her kidneys just may not handle another round of surgery.
So at the specialists recommendation we wait and hope it heals itself. And check up regularly of couse. She had a checkup the very next morning after I frantically called the vet at 11pm when her eye started leaking again. He is a great vet - gave me his mobile number and permission to call at 3am if need be. We do get attached to our pets huh.
So we had our fourth visit on Tuesday - 440kms of driving to see the Eye Vet. Eek. This is like 8 hours of driving. Things looking good though. Healing is progressing however there was buildup of fluid and the likelihood it will start leaking again. That happened half an hour ago. So I got one unhappy kitty who is hiding from us. Its not desperate enough to call the vet at this time of the morning - we knew it was going to happen but part of me just hates this waiting for healing that may or may not happen naturally. At least with humans the patient can understand the process but animals just can't understand whats happening.
Or why they have to have eyedrops six times a day. Plus thyroid meds. And a special kidney diet. Lol the things we do.
Anyway she is going to be twenty in a couple of months so heres hoping by then her eye will be nice and healed. And I can stop freaking out about it!
