Sydney!
Well Leigh and i are back from our 4 days in Sydney. We did lots of stuff ™ and saw lots of things™.
Lord Nelson Brewery - After having a little walk around the city we decided to head down to this fantastic place. We decided to sit at the bar and have some lunch as the rest of the place was completely packed. After listening to Mark at work going on about lamb shanks we were both really dissapointed that they werent on the menu. We ended up going for bangers and mash and fish and chips, such plain sounding food but it was possibly the nicest thing we've eaten in a while, and the beer was pretty good too. We did get the beer ordering a bit fucked up, pots are middies, and in a pub pots sound like pints. We got it sorted by the end after downing a pint before our food arrived.
Awards Ceremony - Let me start by saying how proud of Leigh Iam, while he didnt win a trophy he did get a Higly Commended *claps*. The actual night was a complete blast, food was good, wine was good, company was good :) After the ceremony we went down to a bar for the After-party. Lots of drunk people everywhere. Learnt that the only people that dance worse than geeks are geek journalists. Also learnt more than i needed to know about "teledildonics".
Yacht ride - Our only planned event for our trip was Sailing on an Americas Cup yacht. This was awsome. We went up to Manly and back to take in the wonderful sights of the harbour. I was brave and volunteered to help on the winches while Leigh took photos. The crew explained how the yacht works and why we move the sails. It was great fun and very interesting. I did chicken out on going to the bathroom, and so did alot of other people by the number of people we met in the bathrooms at Star City :)
Sydney Tower - We decided to go in the evening to check out Sydney by night. I think it was probably the best time to go up and see everything all lit up. Luna Park and the Sydney Harbour Bridge looked so amazing. Taking photos was quite an ordeal with all the light behind me but i managed to get some fantastic shots. The ride to the top of the Tower was funny, three kids going insane singing the Willy Wonka song and saying we are going to die while the mother looked completely embarassed while apologising to everyone else in the lift saying "remember this when you go to have children."
Red Oak Brewery - Beer wankery at its finest! I was expecting more of a pub but this was really a restaurant with an awsome beer menu and a bar. Leigh and I tried quite a few different beers including a Honey Ale, Framboise Froment and a Belgium Choc-Cherry Stout. They were all simply amazing. The Choc-Cherry stout was served with a rather indepth lecture on how to drink it and what to drink it with. The food was awsome too, and rasberries in tiramisu go really well.
Taronga Zoo - This was much better than i expected. Taronga Zoo is set on a hill so we caught a cable car to the top and made our way down through some beautiful enclosures. We managed to get front row seats for the amazing Seal show and the free flight bird show. We also got to see the red panda which was amazingly cute. A huge snow leopard, with the most stunning paws, and the gorillas being extremely cheeky. One gorilla managed to climb up and over the wire stopper on a palm tree so he could swing between them and eat whatever it was on the top. There was some butt licking and poop touching, but nothing like the melbourne chimps with their poop eating.
Jet Boating - This was AMAZING fun. We get suited up in an anlke length poncho that feels like its been wet for months and jump into the boat and buckle ourselves in. After the usual safety lecture that goes on we go for possibly the craziest boat ride ive ever been on. These boats get up to 80kms an hour then stops suddenly by doing 270˚ spin, also doing powerbreak stops and letting a wave of water ride on into the back. I dont think ive ever laughed so hard in my life, it sure was an interesting and wet way to see the sights of Sydney.
Krispy Kreme - So over doughnuts right now. Our hotel was a couple of minutes walk away from KK so practically every time we walked past a doughnut was consumed. Added with the ton of doughnuts we bought home for us and everyone else, I can safely say that there will be no more doughnuts consumed for quite a while.
