Knitting obsessed.

I made the Sarena shrug from the Berroco site quite some time ago. I had a bit of a gauge problem and it turned out huge, as you can see here. It's so big I just use it as a bed jacket, something to throw on when the weather is cool and I have on a nightgown but don't want to put on a big robe.

Anyway, I really liked the shape of it. The stitch pattern is quite simple, and since it's made in one piece is very easy indeed. I made another one out of Schoeller Esslinger Bermuda (ordered from elann.com) which is like Rowan's cotton tape but it's half acrylic so machine washable, not to mention very low in price.

This time I did a gauge swatch! I figured out the measurements for the smaller size and cast on accordingly, and made the sleeves shorter. So now I have a shrug that fits. My only complaint is that it is a little bulky on the underarm seams, but most likely after a few washings it will soften and be more comfortable.

If only the weather was not so fricking hot here in Chicagoland so I could wear it right away.

WARNING: Image heavy. Dialup'ers beware.

I had quite a bit left over so I made a scribble scarf from the Mason Dixon book. This pattern is so easy it almost shouldn't be in a book, but it looks lovely with size 15 needles to give it a lacy appearance. Basically you take one thin yarn (I used half Socketta and half Rowan denim) and one thick yarn. The stockinette still curls a bit, I blocked it and this morning it was much better. I haven't decided yet if this is for me or if I will put it towards Xmas gifts.

On another note... I bought the new light up needles, Knit Lite. Our LYS in Dundee had them for the knit-in last friday and I bought them to work on a Mason Dixon bib while seeing Clerks II (great movie) yesterday. They really are handy, but too bright to have constantly on in the theater. It would be the equivalent of someone opening up their cell phone in the dark and the blaring light attracting all to look. I only turned on the light if I had to check that a stitch was mounted correctly. On the other hand, they will be really handy during long car trips when my husband is driving and I need something to do in the dark.

My husband had a good laugh that I am so knitting obsessed that I needed needles which lighted up. But then he saw the look on my face and knew that where knitting is concerned, it is not wise to mess with my passion... and amicably said "Whatever makes you happy, honey."
