So apparently Mom was right to be worried about all the refugees being dropped off in Baton Rouge. This afternoon my mother sits at her desk at Bank One downtown...on lock down.
There are refugees in her bank's parking garage looting and stealing cars...and trying to get into the building. It seems like they are literally trying to take over the city. She had to report to work at her bank today, even though lots of places don't have power. She said these people are armed and she is very scared. I told her to contact me as often as she can. I hope she is safe. She said she can look out the window and see the refugees just walking around all over downtown Baton Rouge. These people are incredibly desperate and some of them are almost looking for trouble. At this point, what else have they got to lose??
She said that once she is able to get home or get to safety that she isn't going back to the bank for a long time. I don't care if they fire her, her job at Bank One is not worth her life or her safety.
It seems like this isn't the only 'situation' that is going on in Baton Rouge. I have read reports of gun shots and fights at the River Center (currently being used to house refugees). I can only pray that things don't get worse in the coming days.
