So... wow. This weekend I went to MAISA women's singlehanded, which is the singlehanded championships for my district (MAISA) and it's sailed in laser radials. Last year I got tenth and was hoping to do slightly better, top eight I believe was my goal. Anyhow, we do four races and I come in for lunch yesterday and I'm WINNING. This was... bizarre. Like... never would I have ever EVER expected to be in that position. And I mean it was cause I got two bullets (firsts) out of four races, but like... whoah. Anyhow, end of the first day I'm tied for second, we have five races left, I go out today and do well and end up in third.
Which means I qualified to go to women's singlehanded nationals in Hawaii next month. This was soooo unexpected. Blaine says he knew I could do it, but I didn't even dream this was possible. Not to toot my own horn either, but I mean... we sailed in light to moderate wind, all kinds of conditions, on three different race courses in different locations around the harbor. So I feel like it wasn't just a fluke. Anyways, this is just insane and I'm so excited and I really just can't believe it.
Update edit:
To people who don't sail, this might be kind of unclear, I mean, I guess "nationals" is a good indicator, but to clarify- 16 college women in the country qualified for this event. This was probably one of the best regattas I've ever sailed... ever.
