I'm definitely crashing, but here is a very brief summary of how I've spent my past week and a half. In bullet form, because I'm exhausted.
-Went to the Ministerio de Economía to talk to someone who works there and get started researching for my paper. Awesome resource, so cool to be there. Also, free pie. Good times.
-Started classes. Long story of bureaucratic/institutional-planning nightmares, but the summary of it is that I'm all good and enjoying them.
-Met some more cousins. More little kids, more adorability. My seven-year-old cousin Delfina is into art and theatre and is learning English and we are going to be good friends. I can tell.
-Went to an open game night! At Bernie's suggestion, I looked up "noche de juego" online and found a local organization that hosts board game nights once a month. So I went, and I had a really great time. I met some Argentines and they taught me some games I didn't know, plus they had lots of games I did know. They had Catan and Small World and the bean game! I played the bean game in Spanish! I taught people how to play the bean game in Spanish! It was really exciting. The beans have different names in the Argentine version. I was amused. I met some really nice people, had good social interaction in a way that (a) made me happy, (b) was free, and (c) was the opposite of the sort of meat market atmosphere of the club scene here. I drew three, and I was happy.
-Went to Colonia, Uruguay! It's a really lovely historic town, and I love picturesque historic towns. However, I don't think it has a weekend's worth of things to do there, sad to say. But it was beautiful, and relaxing, and sunny, and we got to see some of the countryside and go to a beach and it was a nice change from the city.
The next few days will be jam-packed, but I plan to upload photos and such.
