The female betta who lived in a small tank on my computer desk died unexpectedly. Females don't seem to live as long as males, since laying eggs takes a lot out of them. Penelope was bumping around against tank decorations yesterday evening so I suspect she was egg bound, but nothing made me think she was in serious distress or danger. Yet I found her nose-down in the gravel this morning, dead.
She was a very pretty, pink and aqua fishie, and a feisty one. She was always very interested in whatever beverage I set on the coaster in front of her tank, and tried to attack any bug (or, a week or two ago, even a small moth) that landed on her tank. I'll miss her.
