Two of my three bettas are sick.

Pansy, the kitchen counter betta, has been looking puffy for a couple weeks but despite cutting back on how much I feed her, and hoping it was just a load of eggs she was getting ready to lay, she's no better. Yesterday she stopped eating. She's still active and friendly and she comes up to sniff the food, but it's like she just can't get herself to actually eat it.

Oliver, my bedroom betta, was completely fine yesterday, but this morning he's lying almost on his side in a plant, breathing heavily and it looks like part of his right gill is messed up, like a little bit of red tissue is sticking out where it shouldn't. I don't know if he somehow hurt himself, or if it's an illness, or what.
He was making bubbles yesterday! What in the world went wrong with him? :(

I can't believe this! It's bad enough to have one fishie sick, but two? Considering how fragile bettas are, there's not much you can do for them when they get sick. They're so tiny, they don't have a lot of reserves to draw on when something goes wrong.

I've had Pansy for...I'd have to look up the exact date, but around a year. Oliver's only been here a few months, though. Bettas don't live terribly long, especially compared to goldfish, but this is too soon to lose either of them.
EDIT: I got Pansy (and Jazzy, who's healthy and making tons of bubbles, thank goodness) on Thursday, June 15, 2006. Oliver came on Thursday, March 29, 2007.
