Well, that's actually inherent in any rationing system. [legal disclaimer mode=ON]
At home, my newspaper has been running stories about these really old and ill (as in 85+ and on dialysis/other scary medical stuff) and they can't get a shot because they didn't line up at 3 AM to get a number that would have guaranteed them a shot.
I know that libraries are totally germ-infested (I can't even stand to use 1 of the keyboards in my local library) but I can't honestly say that I'm sorry about it. Personally, I'd rather some 80+ year old person with severe medical conditions get a shot before anyone else does (except the very young, etc.).
I might sound like the PR department of the CDC but when you make a public health policy you have to make cut-off limits.
Now, I don't know if you are supposed to get one according to the CDC (I don't memorize their announcements!) but unless you are supposed to get one, I would not have the slightest guilt (if I was the nurse) about turning you away so I could give the shot to another person who needed it more.
[legal disclaimer=OFF]

Sorry about the previous statements. I don't mean to offend you or other librarians (after all, I'm in Friends of the Library at my school!) but I am also a science/public health nut. Oh the joys of being an internal paradox...

Your kind of case probably keeps the directors of CDC up at 3 AM trying to work out all the nitty-gritty details.

Last year at this time when my grandmother was alive and my mother was her full-time caregiver, I would gladly have skipped my shot for their sakes, if there was a shortage.
I'm not saying I should get a shot INSTEAD of the old/infirm/high-risk/whatever patients. I was saying that in an industrialized Western nation there should at least be proper vaccinations for everyone. It's just yet another symptom of how this administration is too busy playing with their pet projects to pay attention to "little" things that affect the general population, like your friendly neighborhood library workers.

*breathes sigh of relief that I wasn't misunderstood*
That's true.
I thought so.
Actually, I think "administration" is the whole government. After all, I don't hear about presidents bribing the CDC! :) (I hope not at least!)
Yeah. I hope you stay well!
