Benny is healthy and cute and I love him and all, BUT...he's tearing Sammy's gorgeous, long, flowing tail into ribbons! ARG! He'll sneak up behind Sammy and just start chomping and yanking on his tail. Despite being three times Benny's size, Sammy doesn't nip back, just flips over and swims away. But poor Sammy's not getting much rest, and his poor tail is split and ragged in several places. His ventral fins are getting torn, too.
The tank's been treated with MelaFix for two days now, but that's not going to help much when Benny keeps shredding Sammy's tail all over again.
I still have the 10-gallon set up, just in case Benny started to show signs of something latent from the pet store. He's healthy as a horse, but he's just being a pain in the butt. Sammy's butt, to be precise. I'm on the verge of dumping naughty little Benny in there and giving Sammy some rest. I hate to leave Sammy alone again but at this point I'm quite sure he'd appreciate the respite. :p
I don't know... If I do separate them, will this tail fetish wear off? Or are they just not compatible tankmates? :(
[EDIT:
I made one of those drawing animation thingies of my vicious, evil goldfish. ;) I'm easily amused.]
On a related note, there's now a bit more room in our freezer; we buried Jackie today, along with Morrie the short-lived betta from back in June, and, believe it or not, Tony. Yes, little Tony the tancho fantail that I lost in Feb. '03. *blush* >_< He was just a little fish and his Tupperware didn't take up much room, so I just left him in there. Three was too many to store, though, especially considering Jackie's size. So before the ground froze for the winter we had to do the triple funeral.
Now all three of my dearly departed fishies are resting between the utility shed and a very large pine tree in my back yard. Next spring Mom's going to plant flowers over them. :\ Rest in peace, my darlings. :(
