Sammy's new tankmate
Too tired to upload the pictures, but Benny and Sammy are now cohabitating! :D Benny looks so little next to Sammy! o_0 LOL!
At first Sammy surprised me by being shy and hiding in the corner! After several minutes in which Benny explored the tank and tasted everything ;D Sammy finally poked his head out from behind the plant and ventured out into the tank to see what this crazy little orange thing was. After some aloofness they began to swim side by side and check each other out. So far so good!
Benny's being a little pest, poking Sammy with his nose and swimming underneath him to get near his pretty tail. Sammy's more active and perky than I've seem him in many weeks. :) They have a pecking order to sort out, of course, and territories to establish (the right corner belongs to Sammy, and Benny needs to learn that!) ;) but they're already enjoying each other's company. Benny looks more like a baby brother to Sammy than a mate. (Although his insistance in inspecting Sammy's rear lends much credence to the theory that Sammy is a girl.) :p
Suppertime went very well. Sammy's so used to deferring to Jackie at meal times that he's not super-protective of the food--no more so than any goldfish would be, anyway. Benny can zip in and Hoover up a ton of food and then go elsewhere to chew it before Sammy's even realized what he's doing. LOL! From his behavior in the first few days he was here I know that's Benny had to eat in the pet store. He'd stuff as much into his mouth as he could and then hide behind a plant in the corner chewing it for a really long time. I'm sure he had to do that as the smallest or perhaps second-smallest fish in the store tank. Now that he's had no one to compete with for a week he's gotten much more relaxed and bold. Sammy's presence made him a little bit more wary, but I don't think he'll find it to be a problem. And there's more than enough pellets to go around! ;)
In a way it makes me miss Jackie even more, seeing Sammy with another fish, but in another way it makes the healing process a little easier. :\
Now they're pretty much done bottom-feeding and just swimming around, being fish. ;) Absolutely adorable. ^_^
