Fishies...

I went to work and just felt so bad thinking about Jackie at home, upside-down, that I couldn't stand it. So I called the vet on my cellphone and told him what was going on. He gave me another week's worth of Baytril for Addy, and a new perscription for Jackie!

I was afraid I'd have to take Jackie in to be examined and weighed before he'd give her the Baytril, but he did it over the phone. Addy's getting .07, so we just estimated how much bigger Jackie is, and gave her .10.

Addy's doing really quite well in every respect EXCEPT that she's still upside-down the vast majority of the time when she's out of her harness. So another week of antibiotic injections for you, young lady! After that, there's nothing more medicines can do. She'll either get better or stay in the harness indefinitely.

As for the other patient...
I was really worried about how I was going to get a huge fish like Jackie out of the tank and to stay still for the shot. Thanks to a few prayers and this video clip, it went amazingly well! I netted her out and put her in the cooler on the table. Probably because she's so sick, she didn't struggle much at all. And using the technique in the video to inject, she didn't even really flinch when the needle went in. (I did, though.) ;) She was back in the tank before Sammy even realized she was gone. ^_^

She's still rather squishy underneath (sign of internal infection), BUT her vent isn't so distended and I think her butt/belly isn't as swollen as it was. It's not a huge change, but both my parents agreed with me when they looked at her. She's also made some attempts to bottom-feed today, even though she can only stay with her nose in the gravel for about one or two nibbles before she flips over again. Give her points for trying, though!

Keeping our fins and fingers crossed!!

(As always, more about my fish issues takes place at this board. *hugs all her friends there for being sooooo nice and helpful*)
