Stuff, much but not all of which is of the sucking variety

I got a Peach Girl artbook from Japan in the mail today. Woot! Thank you, eBay! :)

I read a really well-written HP fanfic last night about Tom Riddle and Ginny. Very canon-friendly and relatively PG-13. Liked it a lot, but it was freaky--especially reading the last part late at night. Because despite the hot actor who plays him, Tom Riddle IS evil and freaky and creepy. But the fic was cool. Yeah. And stuff.

Windchill Advisory tonight and tomorrow for -30 to -35 F windchills. Yeeeep. >_<

Now on to the major suckage of the day:
I brought up all my postcards from the basement last night (18 plastic shoeboxes!!!) I hadn't looked through my collection or filed new cards into it since July of 2001. Apparently there was some moisture in one of the boxes when I last packed them away, because in the last few years mold took over and basically ruined most of my cards from Wisconsin Dells and about half of my "misc. Wisconsin" ones! :( WAAAAAH!!! I've got them airing out in a big heap on the dining room floor, hoping I can peel more of them apart and brush off the black mold. Eeeeeew. Some will be salvageable, but most are ruined. I could just cry. My only solace is that at least it was only one box, and it wasn't one of the more important, antique parts of the collection, like Florida, or my own city, or Mexico. Still, I feel horrible about it. :(

[Edit: I just bought 2000 postcard protector sleeves off eBay. I did Buy it Now and Paypal so they should be in the mail ASAP. I have over 12,000 cards in my collection, but 2000 or so are already in sleeves. This will put a dent in the ones that remain "naked." $30 when I've been trying very hard to get my credit card balance down isn't ideal, but I think it's a worthy investment, considering. :-\ Plus, it's fun to play with all my cards, sorting and putting them in sleeves. ;) So...yeah. Did that.]

In other news, they're painting parts of the library, like the back hallway where the bathrooms are. Instead of the horrible 1970s brown it's now a nice, neutral shade of peach. I actually missed a step as I walked in today, like, "WHOA! What's different?" o_0 Then I realized it was the sudden lightness of the right-hand wall. It looks marvellous, but I could have done without the smell today. >_<

I was so busy today I didn't have time to work on my beloved historical newspaper file project at all! I spent most of my shift photocopying things from either newspapers or Mother Earth News. o_0 I copied articles for the pamphlet files on how to make my own canoe, do more efficient composting, and attract insect-eating bats to my garden. Feel the excitement.
