the warranty is in the sack

Apparently, I have a lot to do over Spring Break.

In addition to work, I also have a problem set and an outline for 608 due the 28th, mock reference questions for 605 due the 29th, and a presentation on Robert McCloskey to give in Children's Lit. on the 30th. The outline for 608 is going to take more effort than I think it is, I'm sure. And I need to make a stupid poster about Robert McCloskey and read all of his stupid books. I feel like a fourth grader.

I went to Confession at Mass tonight. I wasn't going to, but they had it set up so you could write down what you wanted to say and then hand it off to a priest. And they had some priest I had never seen before, so I went to him. It was unorthodox, but I figured it would be the only time Confession would be that trauma-free, so I tried it. Not a bad experience.

Tomorrow is my first official day on the job and also my first official Monday, when everything will be a mess. But hopefully it will all get straightened out before next week and there will be no stress because of it. I know this is not something I want to do long-term, but the creation of the Katie Needs a Laptop Fund will make it all worth it. And it will be nice to know how I'm paying the rent for June, since I don't know when my summer financial aid will arrive. So I will take my 21 hours a week at $8.50 an hour and shut up about it.

Today I read 2 1/2 children's books. And then I wrote 1000 words. The books I read were The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place by E.L. Konigsburg, Phillip Hall likes me. I reckon maybe. by Bette Green and Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath. The Konigsburg book was amazing. She writes amazing stuff. I started another one of hers tonight, but only got about 30 pages into it. Philip Hall was okay. Everything on a Waffle was God-awful terrible and I haven't the foggiest idea why a children's book including recipes becomes a Newbery Honor. What a dumb story. I didn't think it stood out as unique at all. Then again, neither did this year's winner, Kira-Kira. Ick. Award-winning books.

I heard Lisa Loeb on the radio in the dressing room at JC Penney on Friday night. I was so excited because it was a song from her new album that she played when we went to see her. So I bought a pair of jeans and then spent all weekend listening to Lisa Loeb. Good deal. The bizarre title of this entry is from a Lisa Loeb song that came on while I was writing this. I like it. I'm not sure why, I just do.

Anyway, I am surprisingly tired. This doesn't usually happen this early. But I'm resetting myself so that I can get up early 5 days a week. So it's good that I'm tired at this time.

Tomorrow, it's off to play with the kiddies and then rush nervously and tardily to math. After that, it's off to the library to fetch more books and maybe get those stupid McCloskey books too, so my poster doesn't completely stink. For now, it's off to dream land.
